Haines, Alaska. A small town with a big heart. Host of the
Freeride World Tour. I’ve dreamt of coming here since watching
Jeremy Jones and Johan Olofsson shred these otherworldly spines many years ago. Expectations were high and sleep was lost a week before arriving.
The stunning beauty of this place is instantly overwhelming at the first glance of Fort Seward from the ferry. It is remote and isolated, dwarfed by a massive, heavily glaciated mountain range. An instant, humbling reminder of how small and insignificant we are.
There are no taxis here. No traffic lights. No easy road access to nearby towns. No home mail delivery, no malls. No frills but all the thrills. It’s a small town that has everything. Everything that matters. You get more mountains than you could ever wish for. Local bears have names. Bald eagles and bears fish in the stream back to back with your next-door neighbor. It’s an enchanting place, all organic and real, and a breath of fresh air in all senses of the word.
Locals are the only thing that rivals the stunning scenery. Visit here to discover a new meaning of hospitality. The remarkably diverse population consists of friendly folks from all over the world. Even as a visitor, you instantly feel this incredible energy that connects the 2,000 residents. A simple way of life, free from the noise and distractions of the modern world. A healthy, inspiring, rich lifestyle. The home of some of the most genuine and intellectually rich people I have ever met. People like Sally and Mike, Amanda, Brook, Hannah, Steve, Patricia, and Thomas. Thank you for making this an unforgettable week. Hope to see you all again, soon.
